Triple M Metal

Project Description

Triple M Metal has been operating for over 40 years and stands as one of North America’s largest scrap metal recyclers. Their recycling facilities process 250,000 net tonnes of ferrous metals and 10,000 net tonnes of non-ferrous metals each month, aiming to recycle and prepare these materials for sale to customers.

This project focused on relocating the Triple M Metal facility from its previous leased site at 144 Mohawk Road in Brantford to a new permanent location at 59 Roy Boulevard. The area surrounding the former facility is envisioned as the core of the Mohawk Lake District, which will offer local amenities, a vibrant cultural scene, mixed-use residential, commercial, and institutional spaces, as well as parks and trails. This vision prompted the decision to move the metal facility.

Urban Solutions was engaged to carry out a site-specific Zoning By-Law Amendment to allow a salvage yard to operate at the new location. Minor site modifications were necessary to accommodate the metal sorting and storage facility. These changes include relocating the existing site entrance for better maneuverability of large vehicles, adding a truck scale, constructing six concrete bunker walls along the southern property line, and installing an ELV car depollution unit at the southwest corner of the building.
