The City of Hamilton was chosen to host the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) annual conference in September of 2024. The UrbanSolutions team attended the conference throughout its four-day duration at the Hamilton Convention Centre and were able to be present at numerous sessions, workshops, and guided tours hosted by professionals practicing in Ontario.
While the topics and format of the sessions varied greatly, all of the programs provided useful insight into modern issues that planners may face in their day-to-day projects. From learning about strategies to provide affordable housing along major transit routes to participating in roundtable discussions to discuss emerging and future trends in the planning profession, the conference offered a wide range of perspectives and practical solutions. As our industry continues to evolve, these insights will play a vital role informing how planners approach future challenges.
UrbanSolutions also co-hosted an OPPI Social event at The Diplomat on King William street on the during the evening of Thursday, September 26. Planners from both the public and private sectors attended and enjoyed an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, taking a break from the busy day at the conference for some more casual networking. A big thank you goes out to the co-hosting firms and everyone that was able to participate!
