On October 22, 2015, the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) along with City of Burlington staff hosted a walking tour of Burlington’s downtown waterfront parks, recent development projects, and hosted discussions of upcoming economic development and planning initiatives.
The event provided the opportunity for attendees to walk through the Burlington Downtown and appreciate the multiple renewal efforts that the City of Burlington has embarked on. Some of the projects included on the tour were the Spencer Smith Park & Downtown Waterfront Project, Brant Street Pier, Discovery Landing, and the LEED Gold Certified Burlington Performing Arts Centre. In addition to Burlington’s public spaces, the tour also stopped at recent residential developments occurring in the core. Some of the developments included on the tour were The Brock, 360 On Pearl, and Burlington’s new focal point on the beach strip, New Horizon Development Group’s Bridgewater project.
In many aspects, Downtown Burlington is thriving as a result exciting new public spaces complemented by well planned development projects. UrbanSolutions was happy to attend and gain insight on the great efforts of staff to implement these projects and to visit the various residential developments that have helped make Burlington Canada’s the best mid-size City for the past 2 years!
